A homicide charge was filed on Thursday against a 32-year-old Bangladeshi man for the murder of Polish national Anastasia-Patricia Rubinska, 27. He was previously arrested and charged with a felony count of abduction.
Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator worked on the popular Dodecanese holiday island of Kos.
The young woman had gone missing last week. Her nude body was discovered partially covered near a reed bed on Sunday by a fire brigade volunteer. A massive search effort had commenced on the island to find Anastasia, in tandem with an intense police investigation to uncover the circumstances behind her disappearance and subsequent death.
According to the latest media reports, an investigating magistrate assigned the felony case has collected CCTV footage showing the victim and the suspect leaving the latter’s farmhouse dwelling.
Anastasia had arrived in Kos roughly one month ago to work in a high-end hotel restaurant. She resided on the island with her companion, also a Polish national.
The arrested man has lived on the island for several years and works as a manual laborer. No information has been provided as to whether he worked and lived in Greece legally, although authorities said he purchased a plane ticket to fly to Italy after the woman’s disappearance.
