Greece remains cut in two, with significant effects of severe weather front Daniel on the national road network.

In particular, the central road artery of the country, the Athens-Thessaloniki national road, remains closed in parts of central Greece due to the waters that have accumulated from the overflowing of the Pinios river.

Traffic has proceeded with the necessary detours, so that drivers who want to reach Athens and Thessaloniki can go to their destination via Egnatia Road.

In Larissa

As informed by the General Police Directorate of Thessaly, due to an increased volume of water, the traffic of all vehicles on the National Highway in the direction of Thessaloniki has been temporarily suspended, in at least two areas.

In Pieria

Following a decision by the Pieria Police Department, vehicle traffic has been stopped on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway in Pieria, from kilometer 400 (boundaries with the Larissa Police Department), to kilometer 471 (boundaries with the Thessaloniki Traffic Department), in the traffic stream towards Athens, until traffic conditions normalize.

Excluded are vehicles whose final destination is the Pieria Regional Unit, as well as road assistance vehicles and emergency vehicles.

The rest of the vehicles moving in the direction of Athens will be diverted to the Kleidi Imathia junction (474 km) of the highway and will head towards Athens via Egnatia Highway.

“Drivers are requested to be particularly careful and follow the instructions of the traffic police” concludes the announcement of the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia.
