Greece has approved €1.7 million in funding for fire protection measures at child-care facilities and schools in the municipalities of Kozani and Eordaia in northern Greece.

Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis issued two calls for the implementation of the measures, which will be financed through the Special Program for Just Development Transition under the National Development Program 2021-2025.

The projects include targeted fire protection upgrades at 10 buildings housing infant and child-care facilities in the Municipality of Kozani, with a budget of €336,475.25.

A further €1.362 million has been allocated for fire protection measures at 58 school buildings in the Municipality of Eordaia.

The projects aim to strengthen the buildings against the risk of fire and bring them into compliance with modern fire safety standards.

Fire detection and firefighting systems

The proposed measures include both active and passive fire protection works.

Active fire protection measures, involving electromechanical work, include fire detection systems and manual alarms, portable firefighting equipment, firefighting water supply networks and emergency lighting. Permanent firefighting networks will also be installed where required.

Passive fire protection measures will involve construction work, including the installation of fire-resistant doors and partitions to create protected escape routes.

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the National Development Program 2021-2025 information system.
