In February, as well, as has been announced a few times by the government, household and business electricity and gas bills will be subsidized.
According to information, it is a matter of days, maybe even today, the Ministry of Environment and Energy is expected to make announcements about the amount of subsidies that will be passed on to consumers in the energy bills of February in order to mitigate the effects of the large increases.
However, wholesale electricity prices moved marginally downwards in January, while for February they show trends of further de-escalation. Thus, last month, according to the Hellenic Energy Exchange, the average price closed at 227.30 euros / MWh from 235.38 euros / MWh, while in the first days of the month it is at the level of 200 euros.
Electricity bills
Based on the available information and without ruling out surprises, the leadership of the ministry is expected to announce slightly lower subsidies on household electricity bills. Sources say that for the first 150 kWh the subsidy will be 0.15 euros per kWh compared to 0.16 euros in January. For the next 150 to 300 kWh the amount of aid will be at 0.11 euros / kWh compared to 0.12 in January.
The average monthly subsidy for a 300 kWh account will be 39 euros instead of 42 euros last month.
And for February, the subsidies will be made for the main residence of household consumers and in stages, as mentioned above, based on consumption.
Regarding non-household electricity bills, the subsidy of 65 euros / MWh will remain unchanged. It concerns agricultural, professional, commercial, industrial and other uses. Although it was announced that the aid would be granted on the basis of criteria, the European Commission has not yet approved the Greek proposal.
Natural gas
With regard to gas bills, the information states that the amount of the state subsidy will not change in February. It will be at 20 euros per MWh, as well as the discount of DEPA Commerce at 20 euros per MWh.
The subsidy for non-household gas tariffs will be slightly lower. It is expected to be at 20 euros per MWh instead of 30 in January.
