The way is open for the next extensions of the metro. The favorite transit means of Athenians will punch a ticket for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Kallithea, Ilioupoli, Glyfada and Petroupolis. With its decision, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport invites Attiko Metro to mature its project proposals, with funding of 10,623,120 euros, in the framework of the programming period 2021 – 2027.
Line connection 1
The call for design maturation concerns a package of four extensions, which will expand the metro network of the capital by about 22 km and add 17 new stations. The object of the project, as specified in the relevant decision, are the preliminary studies for the connection of Line 1 with the SNFCC. This is the underground connection after Thissio station to Kallithea, which will be 5 km long and four stations: Hamosternas, Davaki Square, Filaretou Hill / Tzitzifies and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The cost is estimated at 450m euros.
Lines 2 and 4
Also included are the preliminary studies for the section Elliniko – Glyfada of Line 2, 4.4 km long with stations in Ano Glyfada, Vouliagmeni Avenue and Glyfada. There are also two extensions of the new Line 4, although the construction of the first phase from the Veikou Grove to Goudi is at the starting point. As part of the project, the preliminary studies for the sections “Evangelismos – Ano Ilioupoli”, 4.1 km long with three stations, and “Alsos Veikou – Petroupoli”, 7.5 km long with six stations will be made. The two projects are estimated to have a total budget of close to 1 billion euros.
Financing
The studies will prepare the projects so that the auction and their implementation will be included for funding in the next Programming Period. The tenders for the studies, which will be held separately for each project, will begin as soon as the action is included in the NSRF 2021 – 2027. The time window in which Attiko Metro is inviting proposal submissions lasts until August 31, 2022, while the date The end of the eligibility deadline is set for the end of 2025.
It is reminded that the extension of Line 2 to Ilion with three new stations in Palatiani, Ilion and Agios Nikolaos is already at a very advanced stage of study. The competition for the project is expected by the end of the year. At the same time, the extension of Line 1, also underground, is gradually maturing, after the KAT station to Kifissia, N. Erythrea and the Varybombi junction to connect the metro network with the National Highway. Also, on Line 2, from Ilion to Acharnes and on Line 4, along Kifissia Avenue to the northern suburbs and the Olympic Stadium – OAKA. The continuation of the maturation of course requires funds which will be sought in the future.
