The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF), the national operator of the International Blue Flag Program, has announced Greece’s 2026 Blue Flag distinctions for beaches, marinas, and tourist vessels across the country.
This year’s announcement, held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Palaio Faliro, Attica, forms part of the celebratory events marking the 75th anniversary of the EEPF. The event took place under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas.
Strong performance sustained on the global stage
With 624 awarded beaches, Greece once again ranks second worldwide among 51 participating countries in the Blue Flag programme. The country continues to show a steady upward trend, consistently surpassing the threshold of 600 awarded sites and accounting for approximately 14% of all Blue Flag beaches globally.
The International Blue Flag Committee awarded a total of 4,378 beaches, 747 marinas, and 158 tourist boats worldwide this year, underscoring the programme’s expanding global reach.
Regional highlights across Greece
At the regional level, Halkidiki emerged as the leading prefecture in the country, earning 93 Blue Flags for its beaches. Meanwhile, the Region of Crete maintained its leading position nationwide, securing a total of 154 awarded beaches.
The results reaffirm Greece’s enduring presence among the world’s top coastal destinations, with consistent investment in environmental standards, water quality, and sustainable tourism practices continuing to pay off across its extensive coastline.
