The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Sofia Zacharaki, was optimistic about the course of tourism in the country, speaking to “MEGA”, emphasized that bookings and arrivals per week are moving upwards.
“We are moving at 60% of 2019 rates so far. The messages are optimistic. “As long as there is no reversal because of the issue of the ‘Delta’ mutation,” he noted.
The Deputy Minister stressed the need for strict observance of protective measures, both individually and by the police and businessmen as “the virus is not over”.
At the same time, she did not clarify whether there will be financial support for businesses on the islands, which are just a step from becoming “red”, if a lockdown is imposed.
“Let’s see what happens. If the situation becomes dangerous we will not hesitate to take action. The most important message that Greece wants to send is the message of security. And in Mykonos we return to normalcy. The bookings were not severely affected,” he said, adding that the islands in the orange zone have increased arrivals.
Regarding the quarantine hotels, he stated that there is an increased number of covid hotels in areas with special needs such as Corfu, Rhodes, Mykonos, and Alonissos.
