The assignment of the construction of the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Station with fuel natural gas in Komotini was signed by the MOTOR OIL and GEK TERNA Groups, marking the beginning of the construction of the project.
Thermoelektriki Komotini, a company in which Motor Oil Renewable Energy (MORE) and GEK TERNA jointly participate, with a percentage of 50% each, was assigned the construction of the Station to TERNA SA, which in turn signed a supply contract with Siemens for the basic equipment of the 877 MW generating unit.
The total cost of the investment is estimated at 375 million euros. 500 jobs will be created during the construction phase of the Station, while 100 jobs will be created during the operation period.
The commercial operation of the unit is scheduled for the beginning of 2024.
The construction of the new state-of-the-art Station is of strategic importance, as it comes to cover the increased needs for electricity in our country, which will be created due to the gradual withdrawal of lignite production units. It is a breath of fresh air for the development of the region, but also for the energy security of the country.
