A fire that broke out in Schimatari, specifically in an agricultural/forested area in Vrysoula, is causing problems for fire fighting forces because of strong forces. According to the latest update, some citizens have been evacuated. Fighting the blaze are 101 firefighters and 18 vehicles. Alongside their Greek comrades 28 Romanian firefighters who have come to the country to reinforce the Fire Department, are fighting the blaze.
Also, four airplanes and two helicopters are operating, while two units on foot and local government water tankers have arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.
According to information, an evacuation order was given for the area of Agios Georgios in Dilesi, Municipality of Tanagra. The efforts of the firefighters are hampered by the strong winds blowing in the area.
According to the mayor of Tanagra, Vassilis Pergalias the fire started just outside Dilesi, and is now very close to residences, which is why locals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, more forces and three more aircraft are expected to join the battle.
