Greece welcomed some 3.9 million travelers in the January-April period who spent 1.786 million euros, according to tentative data published this week by the Bank of Greece.
Central bank data reveals a 22% rise in four-month travel receipts over the same period in 2023 with analysts attributing the increase to a 2.1% rise in average spending per trip to 442 euros.
In the January-April period, travel receipts rose by 22% while the number of inbound travelers reached 3.896 million up from 3.246 million in 2023.
Top spenders from January to April were visitors from Germany, France, Italy, and the US who spent 235.6 million euros, 127.8 million euros, 121.4 million euros, and 204.6 million euros, respectively.
In terms of traveler flows, which exclude cruise arrivals, January-April saw inbound arrivals increase by 20.0% to 3,896.0 thousand: up by 23.4%, through airports and by 14.4% through border-crossing points.
In the same four months, the number of tourists from EU countries increased by 27.1% year-on-year with travelers from non-EU territories increasing by 12.2%.
Key source markets in the January-April period were Germany (+28.3%), France (+8.2%), Italy (+59.6%), and the United States (+62.1%).
