Zelensky Announces Gas Import Deal Between Ukraine and Greece

Ukraine will import natural gas from Greece to strengthen its energy security during the winter months, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced ahead of his arrival in Athens. The agreement, he said, will add a new supply route designed to bolster the country’s energy resilience.

In a social media post, Zelensky stated that the two countries have already prepared the deal, which aims to “ensure natural gas imports for the winter as much as possible.” The move comes as Ukraine faces ongoing challenges to its domestic energy production due to repeated Russian strikes.

Zelensky added that Ukraine has secured financing mechanisms for gas imports, covering nearly €2 billion needed to compensate for losses in domestic output. The new agreement with Greece forms part of Kyiv’s broader effort to diversify energy sources and stabilise supply during the most demanding months of the year.
