Greece holds the 2nd place in the availability of frequencies for the 5th generation (5G) mobile communications networks in 2021 at European level
It is worth noting that in 2020 Greece was only behind Finland in the progress it had made in the efficiency of frequencies, on which mobile phone companies are moving forward with the infrastructure of 5G networks.
“We are proceeding with the immediate development of 5G networks in Greece. “According to the EU 5G Observatory, we are entering the era of fifth generation networks much faster than the European average,” said Digital Government Minister K. Pierrakakis in a post on social media.
Based on the data of December, Greece – according to the company iDATE – has harmonized and rendered 83% of the frequencies available for the 5th generation networks, when the average in the European Union was only 35.7%.
In March, Greece is shown to have made a big leap and the harmonization and efficiency of frequencies for 5th generation networks reached 99%! And this when the European average went up by only 3 percentage points reaching 38.7%.
In first place remains Finland, which has harmonized and rendered 100% of 5G frequencies, and with it now Germany, which in 2020 was in third place. Slovakia is now in third place with 67%.
This in contrast to European countries that are lagging like Estonia, Lithuania, Malta, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia and Poland. According to iDATE data in these states, so far, no frequencies have been assigned for 5G use and they have zero performance.
