An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck south of Crete, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.
The quake, which centered on the sea off Ierapetra in the Libyan Sea, had a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute and had a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the earthquake is located 30 km south, southeast of Zakros.
Lekkas: This earthquake is not connected with the earthquake in Arkalochori
As the president of Organization for Earthquake Planning and Protection (OASP), Efthymios Lekkas, pointed out to ERT state broadcaster, the earthquake took place between Ierapetra and Drakos.
The earthquake was strongly felt in Crete, Dodecanese, Cyclades.
“It happened in a sea area and now we are investigating if it has affected the land. The context is different from the earthquake that took place in Arkalochori. We must not confuse earthquakes “, stressed Mr. Lekkas.
