The announcement of “PPC Renewables” for the construction of the 550 MW photovoltaic park in the Lignite Center of W. Macedonia, specifically in the Ptolemaida mine, was released.
When fully deployed, it will be the largest photovoltaic plant in Greece as it will surpass the 204 MW of Hellenic Petroleum in Kozani. In fact, it will be one of the largest in Europe, as a 626 MW park is currently being built in Spain by Solaria Energia and a 595 MW park by Iberdrola also in Spain.
The tender invites candidates for the construction of the Ptolemaida photovoltaic plant to submit bids until September 30, and its budget amounts to 216 million euros, not including the panels.

According to the text of the announcement, the project concerns the “study, civil engineering works, supply (except for photovoltaic panels), transport, installation and commissioning of a photovoltaic plant with a nominal power of 550 MW”.
Also, the project contractor will be paid a premium of 2.5% on the original contractual price, if the park is delivered 60 days earlier than the contractual deadline.
Estimates call for the photovoltaic plant to be completed in 2024.
Power Purchase Agreements
It is worth emphasizing that the specific project did not participate and will not participate in the tenders to secure aid.
PPC intends to introduce it to the market through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
PPC, as the president and CEO Giorgos Stassis has repeatedly emphasized, will achieve the ambitious goals it has set for the company’s shift to “green” energy. It is recalled that for 2024 it intends to raise the installed capacity in RES to 7.2 GW.
The company is already moving at the end of the year to reach 500 MW from the 239 MW it has today.
