An ambitious plan to expand an ultra-fast broadband (UFBB) in Greece with additional fiber optic connections to more than 810,000 households and businesses in the country appears in the final stretch before implementation.
Any initiative in the country to boost Internet speed to reduce rates in the east Mediterranean country is more than welcome, as Greece continues to lag behind even the EU average in both categories.
The development comes after nearly a year of delays to select temporary contractors for a Public-Private Partnership project with a budget of 870 million euros.
Two relevant contracts are expected to be signed within weeks with the companies UFBB, OTE, Terna Energy and Grid Telecom.
The project also foresees voucher subsidies for consumers to acquire faster Internet connections, of at least 100 Mbps.
