
The death of the second aviator of a Hellenic Air Force F-4 Phantom II that crashed on Monday morning off southwest mainland Greece was confirmed by the Hellenic Air Force’s general staff on Wednesday.
A terse announcement said search and rescue operations have been concluded, with the collection and analysis of findings confirming the fatality.
The 31-year-old pilot and the 29-year-old co-pilot went down with the warplane in a sea region some eight nautical miles west of the harbor of Katakolo. The remains of the “back-seater” officer were recovered on the day of the crash.
The pair of aviator were on a training mission along with a similar fighter plane.
