Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke by phone on Monday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with both leaders reportedly discussing the latest developments involving Gaza, following the unprecedented terrorist attacks last week by Islamist Hamas against military targets and civilians alike in southern Israel.

According to reports, the Greek premier emphasized the need to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and to maintain regional stability.

In a related development, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kostas Fragogiannis met with his Turkish counterpart, Amb. Burak Akçapar, in Athens on Monday.

According to diplomatic sources in the Greek capital, the cordial meeting touched on all issues included in a so-called “positive agenda”, and came ahead of the convening of a bilateral supreme council meeting, scheduled for Dec. 7 in the northern city of Thessaloniki.
