Natural gas demand in Greece decreased so far in 2023, compared with the same period last year, according to first quarter figures released on Tuesday by the country’s natural gas transmission system operator (DESFA).
The main Revithoussa LNG terminal off the greater Piraeus area was the main entry point of natural gas into the country, followed by the Nea Mesimvria border entry for the TAP pipeline, with the Sidirokastro border entry in northern Greece, where a pipeline carrying most Russian natgas, falling to third.
According to DESFA, in the Jan-March 2023 period, domestic consumption of natural gas decreased by nearly 34 percent, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, totaling 12.39 TWh, down from 18.74 TWh.
Re-exported natural gas from Greece, however, remain high, and reached roughly 5.68 ΤWh, increased by a whopping 120.05 percent compared to Q1 2022, or approximately one-third of the total transported quantity.
