Four of Greece’s biggest construction and concessions companies have expressed an interest in an international tender for a major property redevelopment project to relocate the Korydallos correctional complex from the same-name working class district in the wider Piraeus area.
According to the country’s semi-independent privatization agency (HRADF), the four interested parties are AVAX, Aktor Concessions, Gek Terna and Mytilineos.
The project is a public-private sector partnership scheme.
The project involves the study, financing, construction, equipping, maintenance and technical management of facilities that will house a new penitentiary and pre-trial detention center on 10 hectares of land at the Aspropyrgos district, an industrial zone due west of Athens proper.
The specific site previously hosted now disbanded military base.
The tender foresees a 30-year concession.
