“Our country is exiting the pandemic, and our economy and our lives are not going to close horizontally again in any way,” said Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis, speaking to SKAI TV.
“A school may be closed individually based on a decision of the Minister of Education and the health committee, there will be no other general measures,” the minister assured.
“The question is not whether our country is leaving the pandemic, it is leaving, the issue is how many more will die or suffer because they decided not to be vaccinated, thinking that they are in opposition to Mitsotakis. They are really making a big mistake by turning a medical into a political issue, we are not vaccinated to show which party we prefer,” he underlined.
“At the moment, the epidemic seems to have some tendencies of de-escalation, so our measures seem to be working, unfortunately this de-escalation is accompanied daily by many deaths of our unvaccinated fellow citizens. It hurts to know that these people could live, but others fell victim to conspiracy theories.”
Regarding the anti-vaccination demonstrations at the Thessaloniki International Fair, he commented that he has gone to several Thessaloniki Fairs, he has seen demonstrations on very serious issues, such as Prespes, he has seen demonstrations by social partners for salaries but demonstrations of “500 here, 1000, 2000 there against vaccine, that is, that a scientific issue in doctors’ laboratories turned into a political issue. There was not one demonstration, there were three demonstrations, I asked the police why and they answered that if there was just one demonstration they would beat each other up. They hate each other. “Extreme left wingers and rightwing extremists and some subgroups.”
Economy
Regarding the measures announced by the Prime Minister at the Thessaloniki International Fair, the Minister stated that when ELSTAT announced last Tuesday a double growth rate as expected, “the opposition had almost fainted with the growth rate. What was their comment? What about the Greek citizens? Their line of defense was that it does not concern them. On Saturday, Mitsotakis simply explained the salient point that when the economy, investments, businesses are going better than expected andit will not only be the businessman that gains, in the end all Greeks will benefit,” he noted.
“[SYRIZA spox] Mr. Iliopoulos said: ‘from the tax exemption on parental benefits, how many will benefit from the more than 800,000 euro threshold?’ Up to 800,000 euros is, that is, 98% of the population… it is a comedy to be a spokesperson and not have read the measures.”
“There is money ‘, because we have run our exports and tourism companies better than expected, and we are giving away what we have left over to have a higher income to face the intrusion of high prices from abroad to build the change of mentality that will support investment “commented the minister.
“Do not all Greeks benefit from the reduction of VAT on catering? There are also more specialized measures. Our unemployment is already the lowest in the last 10 years, but that is not enough,” he said of the measures for young people. A top measure, which has not been given the attention it deserves, continued Adonis Georgiadis, is the incentive for business mergers with a flat tax of 15% for three years and other measures to transform the economy.
“There will be no elections,” he said toeing the line of the prime minister.
