The competent authorities for the increase of the capacity of the Revythousa LNG terminal are said to be oriented towards the solution of the leasing for one year of ta floating LNG tank (FSU).
This is reported by information, judging by the fact that this option is the most immediate and at the same time gives the possibility of re-evaluating the situation of the energy market, ie if after one year it is required to maintain it or to terminate the lease.
It is worth noting that the aforementioned short-term lease solution was reportedly proposed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, as a faster solution to address the issue of high natural gas prices, and in particular to prepare the national gas system in the event of a sudden halt of Russina gas supplies.
In the meantime, last Friday, the public consultation of the Energy Regulatory Authority on the cost-benefit study for the floating LNG tank was completed. The study favored the purchase of a tanker over leasing for five years as the most advantageous option.
In any case, the Regulatory Authority for Energy-RAE is expected to decide on the selection of natural gas transmission system operator-DESFA, while information wants the Administrator to be already moving in the market, asking for offers for the charter of a tanker with a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters.
Shielding the country’s energy efficiency and increasing the use of LNG over Russian gas are among the priorities of government policy. For this reason, after all, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has planned for today at 9.30 in the morning a visit to the facilities of Revythousa. There he will be toured by the Energy Minister and DESFA management.
