Gov’t expected to announce more measures this week easing impact of rising energy prices

The Greek is, according to the latest press reports in Athens on Wednesday afternoon, expected to announce urgent subsidies for skyrocketing electricity rates in the east Mediterranean country.

By all accounts, PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce the measures, amid growing criticism that soaring energy prices have drastically affected households’ “pocketbooks”, which beyond gas pumps and power sockets, have fueled almost double-digit inflation.

According to the Mega channel, the main measure is a subsidy for consumption of more than 300 kilowatts per month.

Another media outlet reported that the overall goal is to return rates paid by consumers to last summer’s levels, while details are expected to be “fleshed out” a day later by relevant ministers.
