The president of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlou, made a public intervention in the case of the seizure of the two Greek ships and their crews in Iran, on the occasion of a relevant statement by the Minister of Shipping, Giannis Plakiotakis.
Specifically, during a press conference for the Poseidonia 2022 Exhibition that took place at noon on Thursday, Ms. Travlou said: “The issue of the hiighjacking of our two ships in Iran is something unheard of and unprecedented. Two ships under the Greek flag are being held, their crews are being held, among them young persons on their first voyage as far as we know, and the whole international shipping community really needs to rise up, all states, to put an end to this story.”
Earlier, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis, had stated: “It violates any notion of law, disrupts the regulatory system for the Law of the Sea, threatens the safety of navigation and world trade. We call on all states to act to put an end to this unacceptable event and to ensure that it does not happen again. The Law of the Sea is the foundation for every activity and a non-negotiable value. Not only for global shipping but also for global prosperity.”
