
Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, today inaugurated a tourist shelter on Corfu, a project, which, as he said, gives added value to the cosmopolitan area of Paleokastritsa and especially to the small port of Alypa.
Mr. Kikilias pointed out that tourism for the island of Corfu is a national issue and can not entails petty politics, while addressing everyone he emphasized that the aim this year is to extend the tourist season until the beginning of winter.
At the same time, the Minister of Tourism thanked all those involved for the completion of the project, expressed his enthusiasm for the special natural beauty of the area, while underlining that tourism in Corfu is growing by leaps and bounds.
Arrivals are soaring
In particular, as he said, July closed with an increase in arrivals at the island’s airport by 19.7%, compared to the corresponding month of 2019, despite this year’s difficult circumstances and the global crisis.
For the creation of the shelter, the local government collaborated with all competent agencies.
The opening ceremony was performed by the Metropolitan of Corfu, H.E. Nektarios, while greetings were delivered by the regional governor of the Ionian Islands, Ms. Rodi Kratsa, the mayor of Central Corfu, Meropi Hydraiou, and the island’s MP, Stefanos Gikas.
The tourist shelter of Alypa, in combination with that of Benitsa and the private Marina for tourist yachts in Gouvia and together with the planning of new shelters, Corfu will become a hub with the most organized berths for tourist boats, underlined the Mayor
