Aegean announces flights from Athens using sustainable aviation fuel

Aegean Airlines has begun flights from the Athens International Airport (AIA) using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the only carrier in Greece to do so and one of the few in Europe, in partnership with Hellenic Petroleum (Hel.Pe) group.

The development comes after similar flights from Thessaloniki also use SAF.

The launch of its SAF program aims at further reducing its environmental footprint, while continuing to expand its network and operations.

This strategic initiative for supply of SAF in Greece was welcomed by the Greek government, as it enables the country to make an effective contribution to international efforts that target to make air transport more sustainable. It is also the first step for airlines and airports to align in a proactive manner with the upcoming European Union SAF targets by 2025.
