Libya’s National Oil Company (NOC) plans to increase the country’s oil production to 2 million barrels per day over the next five years, company chief Farhat Bengdara announced Tuesday (photo, top, by Anadolu).
Pipelines with Greece and Egypt
In an interview with SkyNews Arabia on the sidelines of an industry conference in Abu Dhabi, Bengdara also said he expects production revenue this year to reach between US$35 billion and US$37 billion.
He assured that the NOC does not expect any interruption in oil production because “there is an understanding that oil should not be used as a lever for political gains.”
He, in another interview with the Dubai TV station CNBC Arabiya, said that the creation of two new natural gas pipelines is under consideration. One will head to the Egyptian city of Damietta and the other to Greece.

He also said that these pipelines will operate in parallel with the existing one to Italy and did not rule out the possibility that his country would request to join the Eastern Mediterranean Natural Gas Forum (EMGF), in which the countries of the region participate (Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Palestine are the founding members) excluding Turkey.
And he added, among other things, that NOC is going to sign with Italy’s Eni investments in the order of 8.6 billion dollars for research in fields in the Mediterranean and western Libya.
Haftar threatens
After a month of silence, Marshal Khalifa Abu al-Kamim Haftar, took a stand on the recent agreement signed by Ankara with Libya’s interim prime minister Dbeiba, and attacked Turkey, which he described as a colonial Ottoman Empire, backward, unfair, hateful and despicable.

On the occasion of his visit to Al Jufra, he emphasized that remarkable chapters were written in the region against the colonial, backward, unjust and hated Ottoman, with caravans of martyrs.
He added: “We will fight those who put their soldiers and mercenaries on our land, greedy for our wealth, taking advantage of the extraordinary circumstances our country is going through, to make shameful deals with traitors and agents, who sold the homeland and their honor for power and money.
“My sons and I crave death more than life, that our beloved Libya may remain free and proud, and that we may defend her borders, by land, sea, and air, with our soul and blood, this earth is our life.
Egypt is more interested
Moreover, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan Parliament, Khaled al-Akouri, supported Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry’s statements against the Libyan interim government based in Tripoli, saying that Egypt is more interested in Libya than some Libyans.
