Strong interest in new investments in Greece was noted by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and External Affairs, Costas Fragogiannis, during his recent visit to San Francisco and specifically to Silicon Valley, California, as he said speaking at a SAP Hellas event, held in Athens under the title “Transform tomorrow, today”.
In particular, speaking in the section of the event with the theme: “Greek Entrepreneurship and Extroversion”, Mr. Fragogiannis, pointed out that from the contacts he had during his recent trip it was found that the investment interest of some companies will be turned into action with at least one investment being confirmed already, while others will follow.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the important meetings with academics and scientists from Stanford, Berkeley and USF Universities, with the aim of finding opportunities for cooperation with Greek universities in the field of innovation, technology and research.
Air connection to San Francisco
In addition, he referred to the meeting with the Municipality of San Francisco, which also manages the city’s airport, during which the start of the Athens-San Francisco air connection was discussed and optimism was expressed for the possibility of its launch in the summer of 2023.
Foreign direct investment in 2022
Referring to the increase in foreign direct investment in the country in 2022, Mr. Fragogiannis pointed out that Greece has the potential to offer investment opportunities in other sectors besides shipping and tourism, such as energy, the pharmaceutical industry and digital technology. A typical example is the already existing international data hubs in Greece.
Mr. Fragogiannis concluded his intervention, expressing the government’s will to promote further reforms to attract new investments and utilize the country’s human potential, as Greece now has a modern innovation ecosystem.
