
An informative meeting with the Municipality of Rethymno and the presidents of the settlements of West Rethymno (Kampanos area) was held yesterday at the headquarters of the Regional Unit of Rethymno on the occasion of the tender by the Regional Unit of Rethymno for the Study of the Road Connecting the Settlements of West Rethymno with the Northern Road Axis of Crete .
The purpose of the meeting was to inform about:
A) With the budget project of 1,500,000 euros, which concerns the Old National Highway, west of Rethymno to the borders of the Prefecture of Chania, which is executed by Rethymno regional authorities and concerns the maintenance of the road network, technical construction etc
B) With the tendering of the Study of the Road Connecting Settlements of Western Rethymno with Northern Road Axis of Crete“, budget 1,200,000 €.
As stated by the Vice-Regional Governor of Rethymno, Mrs. Maria Lioni, the Regional Unit of Rethymno responding to the needs of upgrading the road network of the P.E. towards the North Crete Motorway with all the settlements of the wider area of “Kampanos”.
With the implementation of the proposed study, the aim according to the Region of Crete is to strengthen the social cohesion of the residents of the area, as well as the planned interconnection with the Municipality of Agios Vassiliou, improvement in the movement of agricultural products to the Northern Road Axis, containment of the population in wider area, improving the traffic of the already intense tourist flow in the area, increasing road safety for access to the area in question and efficient arrangement of local and long-distance traffic.
