“Evia is at the top of the interest of the Ministry of Tourism and the Hellenic Tourism Organization-EOT regarding the promotion of its tourist product, an interest parallel to that of the state for the general support and subsequent reconstruction after the devastating fires, through a comprehensive plan and total funding of 700 million euros and the construction of a total of 71 projects”. This was stated, inter alia, by the head of EOT Dimitris Fragakis speaking at the chamber meeting on the subject of tourism in Evia.
Promotion abroad
In this context, he made it known that EOT, in collaboration with its 17 offices abroad, offers a promotion package for the area with Fam-press Trips for the whole of Evia, so that specialized journalists and Opinion Leaders as well as other market players , visit it and then show it to targeted markets abroad.
This initiative was decided to be implemented in cooperation with the region and the municipalities and with the coordination of the Chamber of Evia.
Opportunity for the tourism of Evia with the reconstruction plan
In his intervention, Mr. Fragakis, after carefully recording opinions and proposals submitted, characterized the previous year as a milestone for the state because of the multiple crises it had to face. Stating that the said reconstruction project can be a golden opportunity for the redesign of the tourist product of Evia, setting as the main axes for the growth of tourism on the island the upgrading of infrastructure, such as with the new road axis Psachni – Istiaea, the restoration of the environment, such as with the sustainable establishment of new forests and the strengthening of the local tourism product with alternative forms of tourism.
He underlined, however, that the reflexes of the State and the plan it has for the next day in Evia, but also the intention of EOT for its tourism promotion, the consultation of the local community, the delineation of the distinct touristic identity of the place, the targeting of sustainability and the human-centered character of the development and the production of an overall project over time must follow.
At the same time, the SG of EOT presented the special initiatives developed by the organization to support Evia after the fires, such as primarily and among others, the free participation of the Region of Central Greece in its stands at international exhibitions and the extremely successful implementation of the Evia Pass measure amounting to 2, 7 million euros.
