Ankara will support Athens’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 period, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced on Monday, after their meeting in Brussels.
Athens, in turn, will support Ankara’s candidacy for the general secretariat of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Dendias added.
The two top diplomats met on the sidelines of an international donors’ conference to aid in the reconstruction of quake-devastated areas southeast Turkey and northwest Syria.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Dendias said “we have just concluded a very constructive meeting with my friend (Çavuşoğlu) right before the donors’ conference in support of the people in Turkey and Syria, to which we will go together immediately after…I had the opportunity to thank Mevlüt, because he was the first minister to call me after the tragedy in Tempi and offer his condolences, President (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan’s condolences and also help, if needed,” he added.
