First group of Greek citizens evacuated by air from Khartoum

The first group of Greek citizens evacuated from the capital of Sudan, strife-plagued Khartoum, was reported on Sunday afternoon. Two injured people were included in the group, according to Greece’s foreign ministry.

The evacuation was achieved with the assistance of France, the ministry added.

An evacuation flight was headed for the small Horn of Africa country of Djibouti, where France fields a military presence. Greek diplomats were awaiting the group at the country’s main airport.

Greek FM Nikos Dendias issued his thanks to his French counterpart Catherine Colonna for Paris’ substantial help.  Ελλήνων από το Σουδάν.
