Greece’s trade deficit grew by 1.3 percent in March 2023, compared with the corresponding month in 2022, the Hellenic Statistical Authority announced on Monday.

Specifically, the statistics service said the value of imports totaled 7.384 billion euros in March, from 7.090 billion in March 2022, an increase of 4.1 percent (excluding oil products imports grew 3.2 percent, while excluding oil products and ships imports rose 3 percent). The value of exports totaled 4.801 billion euros, from 4.540 billion March 2022, for an increase of 5.7 percent (excluding oil products exports rose 13 percent, while excluding oil products and ships exports rose 12.8 percent).

The trade deficit was 2.583 billion euros, up 1.3 percent from March 2022 (excluding oil products the deficit fell 11 percent, while excluding oil products and vessels the deficit fell by 11.3 percent).

In the first quarter of 2023, the value of imports totaled 20.934 billion euros, up 1.8 percent from the same period in 2022 (excluding oil products imports rose 2.1 percent, while excluding oil products and vessels imports were up 1.9 percent).

The value of exports totaled 13.713 billion euros in the January-March period, up 17.8 percent from the same period in 2022 (excluding oil products exports rose 12.7 percent, while excluding oil products and ships exports rose 12.1 percent).

The trade deficit totaled 7.221 billion euros, down 19 percent from the same period last year (excluding oil products the deficit fell 12 percent, while excluding oil products and vessels the deficit fell 11.6 percent).
