Incumbent New Democracy (ND) achieved a landslide election result on Sunday during the Greek general election, with its projected tally hovering at 40 percent of the general vote – exceeding its result in 2019.
Based on the figure, the center-right party will win 145 seats in the 300-deputy Greek parliament, five+1 short of forming a majority government.
The day’s election disappointment, up-until-now SYRIZA, is calculated at 20.09 percent, a result that translates into 71 seats.
The other three parties entering Parliament (above 3 percent of the general vote) are PASOK (11.97 percent, 43 seats); the Communist Party (7.04 percent, 25 seats, and Elliniki Lysi (4.49 percent and 16 seats).
ND picked up 39.85 percent and 158 seats in the July 2019 election, however, a revised electoral law (by a SYRIZA government in its waning tenure) now gives it less seats in Parliament.
