One of the last opinion polls to be released before Sunday’s general election in Greece – and hours before a weekend moratorium comes into force – shows a standing lead by incumbent New Democracy (ND) over rival SYRIZA hovering at the 20-percentage-point range.
However, the primary question, as revealed by results from the Metron Analysis firm, is how many deputies center-right ND will elect above 150 in the country’s 300-deputy Parliament.
The poll, as presented on the primetime newscast of Athens-based national broadcaster Mega TV, shows as many as nine parties entering parliament, in the most extreme scenario.
The firm surveyed a sample of 1,302 respondents between June 15 and June 21.
Specifically, based on an extrapolation of the results, ND is assessed as polling 40 percent of the vote, which would mean a decrease of 0.8 percentage points from its showing in the May 21 election.
Leftist SYRIZA is slightly up, given 20.7 percent, up from 20.1 it garnered in the May 21 ballot.
