Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday met with the leadership of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) at his Maximos Mansion office, where the significance of the Greek-owned ocean-going fleet was emphasized.
All of the participants at the meeting also cited the importance of a strong European presence in the sector of maritime trade, along with efforts to boost the competitiveness of European businesses.
Other topics up for discussion were the prospects for a de-carbonization of global shipping transport, and the Greek shipping community’s prospects to serve as a pioneer in this initiative.
Finally, Mitsotakis thanked the union for its decision to grant 50 million euros towards restoration works in the flood-ravaged Thessaly region.
Several ministers attended the meeting, while the UGS was represented by its president, Melina Travlou and its board members.
