Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will reportedly meet with representatives of protesting farmers on Tuesday at the Maximos Mansion government house, sources said on Friday. An intent to hold such a meeting was later confirmed by Mitsotakis’ press office.
Mitsotakis will return from Belgrade on Monday, with the government side first requesting that all roadblocks and obstacles be lifted by the protesting farmers. Later reports said 15 representatives of protesting farmers have been appointed to meet with Mitsotakis
On the protest front on Friday, groups of farmers and stockbreeders in northwest border prefecture of Florina briefly blocked the Niki border post in the early afternoon. Protesters only stropped trucks from passing to and from the Republic of North Macedonia, while allowing passenger vehicles to pass.
Authorities on both sides of the border had stopped trucks from reaching the border crossing in order to prevent traffic congestion.
Ongoing protests are continuing around the country, with protesting farmers demanding higher subsidies and state support, among others.
