The Athens International Airport (AIA) continued to post impressive numbers, with passenger traffic reaching 3.45 million in June, representing a 4.6% increase compared to June 2024, according to official data.
The figures indicate that both domestic and international travel have contributed to the uptick, with domestic traffic rising by 1.9% and international traffic increasing by 5.8% year-over-year.
The Athens International Airport handled 15.07 million passengers in the first half of 2025, a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year, with domestic traffic rising by 2.2% and international traffic recording a sharper 9.8% uptick.
The number of flights during the first six months of 2025 also grew, totaling 127,992—a 6.8% rise from 2024. Domestic flights increased modestly by 1.1%, while international flights surged by 10.7%.
Notably, tourism spending also showed remarkable improvement, as in the first four months of 2025, 4.12 million visitors spent €2.16 billion. According to data from INSETE, the average spending per tourist reached €523.26, up from €494.38 in the same period last year.
This growth in tourist expenditure reflects both a rebound in the travel sector and stronger purchasing power among visitors. Overall tourism revenue rose by 5.9% year-on-year, while arrivals increased by 1.4%, underlining the sector’s sustained recovery.
