Russia Unleashes Over 300 Drones on Ukraine, Killing One in Odesa

Russia launched one of its most intense aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent months overnight into Saturday, firing more than 300 drones and over 30 cruise missiles in a sweeping bombardment that left at least one person dead and several others injured.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the onslaught struck multiple regions: “Last night, our warriors from various units repelled another Russian attack. More than 300 strike drones and over 30 missiles of various types were launched against our cities”

Heavily targeted was the port city of Odesa, where more than 20 drones and a missile ignited a fire in a residential high-rise. One resident was killed, and at least six others were injured, including a child. Five people were rescued from the burning building, Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said on Telegram.

The northeastern region of Sumy also suffered damage to critical infrastructure, Zelenskyy noted in his statement on X (formerly Twitter), as he reiterated his appeal to international allies for faster implementation of defense agreements. These include partnerships on joint weapons production, expanded drone manufacturing, and additional air defense system deliveries.

“Thanks to all leaders who understand how important it is to promptly implement our agreements,” Zelenskyy wrote, referencing ongoing efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself as the war drags past its third year.

Ukraine’s air force reported that five missiles and 30 drones hit 12 locations across the country, while debris from intercepted aerial targets caused damage at seven other sites. The scale of the attack reflects Russia’s increasing reliance on drone warfare—launching more drones in a single night than it did in some entire months of 2024.
