Long-term traffic restrictions will come into force on the Athens–Thessaloniki motorway, according to an announcement by Nea Odos, as part of extensive resurfacing works.
From Monday, April 20 at 7:00am until Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7:00pm, traffic measures will be implemented on the Athens-bound motorway in two phases.
Phase A
During the first phase, the left lane will be closed between kilometer markers 158.8 and 155.2, with traffic diverted to the right lane. This will be followed by the closure of the right lane and the emergency lane along the same stretch, with vehicles rerouted to the left lane.
Phase B
In the second phase, the left lane will be closed between kilometer markers 156.5 and 151.9, with traffic directed through the right lane. This will be followed by the closure of the right lane and the emergency lane in the same section, with traffic shifting to the left lane.
Works will be carried out from Monday to Saturday, between 7:00am and 7:00pm. The period from April 30 to May 4, 2026, is excluded from the restrictions to accommodate increased holiday traffic.
If the works are completed earlier than expected, traffic will be restored ahead of schedule.
Nea Odos stated that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and smooth movement of drivers, with temporary signage in place to provide clear guidance. The company thanked the public for its understanding and urged motorists to exercise caution and comply fully with all posted instructions throughout the duration of the works.
