The need to approve additional quantities of wines, which will be directed towards the “crisis distillation” program, research carried out by the Central Cooperative Union of Wine Products points out.
According to the research, there is a need to approve another 40,000 HL (hectoliters) with a budget of € 2,000,000. This need arises because cooperative wineries in particular paid high prices for grape production in 2020 and due to the fierce and often unfair competition, they failed to push the quantities of wine on the market based on the grape production they received.
At the same time, the Central Cooperative presented the final data of the crisis distillation requests of all wineries in the country, affected by the “cut-off” threshold of 8,000 HL per winery, set by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
According to the data of the Ministry of Regional Development, 78 requests for crisis distillation wine were submitted by an equal number of wineries, which concerned 170,621.04 HL of wines with a budget of € 9,255,476.02. Out of these, requests for a quantity of 165,182.04 HL of wines, with a budget of € 8,941,164.02 were approved.
The requests concerned quantities of wines, without Geographical Indication 100,619.7 HL (60.91%), wines with PGI 38,078.26 HL (23.05%), wines with PDO 24,487.17 HL (14.82%) and sweet wines with HL 1,996.91 (1.21%).
