A violent fight between young tourists belonging to the same group holidaying on the Cyclades island of Ios resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Irish man on Sunday evening.
The alleged culprit is a 20-year man, also from Ireland, according to local media sources. The suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with homicide. He will be transferred to the larger island of Naxos to face a first instance magistrate.
Still sketchy reports claim the first man struck the victim during a fight, resulting in the latter crashing onto the pavement. The victim was rushed to the island’s health center, where he perished.
The reason for the fatal brawl was not cited in initial reports.
