On the national holiday of October 28, Angela Merkel is coming to Athens. Following an invitation addressed to her by the Prime Minister at the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Slovenia, Angela Merkel is coming to our country this afternoon for a meeting with the political and state leadership.
“The visit has the character of an account of Greek-German relations”, Mr. Mitsotakis noted in Brussels last week for the arrival of Angela Merkel.
What will be discussed
Chancellor Angela Merkel is looking forward to her meetings in Athens with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, government spokesman Stephen Seibert said. Greek-Turkish relations, the federal government always believes that solutions to problems can be found “only through talks, dialogue and a spirit of mutual respect.”
“We are convinced – and the federal government has always acted based on this, – that the neighborly relations between Greece and Turkey are important and in the interest not only of these two countries, but also of the whole of Europe,” said Seibert, adding: “That is why we welcome and support the fact that Greece and Turkey have resumed talks, that they are conducting bilateral exploratory talks, in order to find solutions to the difficult open issues between them. “Because it is clear that solutions can only be found through talks, dialogue and in a spirit of mutual respect.” He even stressed that “the chancellor made this clear during her recent talks in Turkey.”
Merkel’s program
Merkel will have dinner with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday (28/10) night, with whom she will also meet on Friday (29/10) at the Maximos Mansion. The joint press conference is scheduled for 12:30.
