The worst phase of the latest severe cold front to hit Greece will erupt on Saturday, especially in the north and central mainland, as well as the greater Athens area, Evia and even as south as the Peloponnese.
The greater Athens area is the focus of civil protection measures and precautions, as nearly half the country’s population of 11 million reside there.
Authorities called on people to curb non-essential travel and to keep snow chains in their vehicles. Several tollways have also prohibited the travel of heavy vehicles, such as trucks, over the weekend.
