New arrears owed to Greece’s tax bureau increased by 790 million euros in March 2022, bringing the total of new arrears for the year (Q1) to 3.326 billion euros.
The total figure for arrears owed to the Greek state reach a stratospheric 112.85 billion euros, although a good portion of the number is deemed and uncollectible, dating back decades. Many companies laden with debts are no longer in existence, whereas many individual taxpayers are not economically active or even alive.
More than 4.01 million tax numbers are shown with arrears, ranging from a missed payment to the tax bureau to tens of millions of euros by some individuals.
The increase in March 2022 from February 2022 was 26 percent.
