Norwegian DNV and the shipping company Saronic Ferries will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to allow the development of an electric ship for local development in Greece.
The cooperation is aimed at the development of electric ships on short-haul passenger routes in the Saronic Gulf.
The memorandum of understanding will be signed on Tuesday morning, June 7 at the Posidonia exhibition at the DNV stand.
Intention
It is pointed out that DNV has stated its intention to assist in the development of electric ships in Greek coastal shipping. The very successful implementation of the DNV Green Shipping Program in Norway, where the country’s fleet of short-haul vessels is being replaced by non-emission vessels, is creating a huge opportunity, he said.
Greece has a similar geography, fleet size and regional needs and the construction of such ferries could also be facilitated locally, said Ioannis Chiotopoulos SVP, Regional Manager for Southeast Europe, the Middle East and Africa, recently speaking on the 100th anniversary of DNV in Greece.
