In a few hours the process of transferring the crude oil from the tanker “Ice Energy” to the Iranian tanker “Lana” at its mooring in Piraeus will begin, as the the Supreme Court has rejected, as was expected, the appeal of the shipping company Times Navigation against the Iranian tanker “Lana”.
Times Navigation had chartered two tankers to transport the 104,000 tons of crude carried by Lana to the USA, after an initial court decision, which, however, was appealed and overturned. Times Navigation challenged the appellate decision, but the Supreme Court ruled that Times Navigation request was invalid and not justified.
It is estimated that the transfer will be completed by the beginning of next week, and then the Iranians will initiate the procedures for the release of two Greek-flagged ships being held in retaliation for the “Lana’s” seizure by the Iranian authorities in the Persian Gulf.
Information already indicates that there is movement near the Greek ships as a representative of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in the area to monitor the whole case.
The Greeks are in good health, but they are under some duress from being detained on the ships for such a long time.
The two Greek-flagged tankers detained are the Delta Poseidon of the Delta Tankers company of Diamantis Diamantis and the Prudent Warrior of the Polembros Shipping Limited company, owned by Spyros Polemis. On the Delta Poseidon there were 25 crew members of which two are Greeks and on the Prudent Warrior there were 23 crew members of which 8 are Greeks and one Cypriot.
