Greece’s privatization fund, the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF), on Wednesday announced an agreement with the regional government of Attica – the greater Athens-Piraeus area – for the construction of a unified pedestrian-bicycle route along much of the so-called “Athenian Riviera”, a coastal stretch from the Neo Faliro district, southeast, to the upscale municipality of Voula.
The project, which has secured funding, as it is already included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, billed as “Greece 2.0”, with a budget of 24.7 million euros, will be tendered by HRADF and implemented by the Region of Attica.
The scope of the project, called “Athenian Riviera – Urban Walk”, involves the unification of the urban coastline along greater Athens, through a single network of pedestrian-bicycle path that extends from the municipality of Kallithea to the city hall of the municipality of Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni, crossing six municipalities (Kallithea, Paleo Faliro, Alimos, Elliniko-Argyroupoli, Glyfada, and Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni).
The estimated total length is 13,5 kilometers. The aim of the project, which is expected to be delivered at the end of 2025, is the creation of an upgraded free public space, attributed to pedestrians and cyclists throughout Attica.
