European Parliament vice-president Eva Kaili on Friday tabled an urgent question towards the EU Commission, essentially calling for immediate legal measures and restrictions to confirm the age of users attempting to access dating platforms and applications.

Kaili, possibly the most recognizable Greek MEP in the European Parliament, tabled the question in the wake of an explosive case of alleged child sex exploitation in Greece, one involving a 12-year-old girl.

Specifically, Kaili called for the use of AI to confirm users’ age. She also requested from the Commission to enact clear rules for online service providers.

One of the main allegations emerging in the case is that two adult suspects used dating and personal ad applications to find “clients”.
