An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was recorded at 15.30 local time (13.30 GMT) and widely felt the greater Athens area.
According to the Athens-based Geodynamic Institute, the quake’s epicenter was 13 kilometers southwest of the south-central city of Atalanti, in Fthiotida prefecture, north of Athens proper. The tremor’s depth was recorded at 13.6 kilometers.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, however, the earthquake measured 4.9R and was pinpointed at 17 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Livadia, also in south-central Greece, but with a depth of only two kilometers.
