Greek farmers are preparing for a decisive day in their ongoing protests, following a brief holiday break. Preparatory assemblies are set for Nikaia, with a major nationwide meeting scheduled in Malgara, where over 55 protest groups are expected to participate.
Authorities have maintained traffic restrictions on key highways, including the closure of the Patras ring road, signaling a possible escalation in demonstrations. Some farmers have even proposed driving tractors to Athens for a large-scale rally.
The protests highlight critical agricultural concerns, such as fuel and electricity prices and compensation for farmers affected by livestock disease, which has decimated thousands of sheep and goats. Local authorities urge travelers to plan ahead, as heavy traffic is expected, and temporary road closures will continue to ensure public safety.
Farmers have left a window for dialogue with the government, depending on measures taken regarding fuel, electricity, and compensation for affected livestock. Meanwhile, police continue to manage traffic to prevent accidents and ensure road safety amid the ongoing protests.
